Hi all,
First-time poster here. I've been a non-flier for many years. Used to fly to Europe regularly, then something changed. Anyhow-- after years of reading Capt. Tom's dispatches and trying to kick anxiety to the curb, I've signed up to go to Ireland in a few months. I'm psyched, and I'm fairly confortable, to my amazement.
But there's a nagging problem: I found out that Aer Lingus Boston to Shannon is now flown by Air Contractors, on Air Contractors 757s. The only thing that's actually Aer Lingus is the cabin crew and the paint job! And who knows what kind of training and maintenance is part of this Air Contractors company? Anybody's guess, unfortunately. This does not decrease my anxiety.
Aer Lingus also flies Airbus A330s -- with Aer Lingus flight crew -- to Dublin. I am considering changing my destination. But then I get concerned about A330s' safety record compared to 757. Argh! I hate this kind of thought-loop.
I'm sure many of you know how this stuff goes. Interested in any advice that may be out there.
many thanks!
