I need some help with this......I've been tracking the flight that I'm taking on flightaware.com. I've suddenly developed a new concern (fear)
after seeing how many aircraft are in the sky at once. I literally had a panic attack when I saw the current number of flights. Apparently, there is a good
system in place because, otherwise, planes would be running into each other.
Captain Tom, you wrote a couple of days ago that pilots have onboard systems to see the traffic around them. When a plane takes off (or lands), how does it get through all the air traffic in the vicinity of the airport without being in a collision?
I just can't comprehend that many flights at once. It looks like an accident waiting to happen. Is there some information on this site that will teach me about air traffic control? I'm afraid I'll get on my flight and hold my breath the entire time anticipating a mid-air collision.
Thank you in advance!
